ED2 Recovery

LRCC’s ED2+ recovery program provides peer support by recovery coaches and certified peer support specialists through regrant awards from Wisconsin Voices for Recovery, the agency overseeing the Wisconsin ED2Recovery+ program. LRCC’s services are currently occurring in hospitals in both Manitowoc and Sheboygan counties offering referrals, support, and follow up for treatment and recovery to individuals that have experienced an opioid overdose. Recovery coaches and certified peer support specialists also offer services outside of emergency department settings including destinations where an individual may have experienced an opioid overdose.

The ultimate goal of the program is to unite treatment systems to promote peer support services that will:

Decrease the number of overdose fatalities in Wisconsin.
Increase treatment and recovery support service utilization of the target population.
Reduce Emergency Department admissions due to overdoses.
Provide peer support services in community settings.
Be a sustainable and collaborative peer support network.

Drop-In Centers

LRCC Drop-In Centers offer a safe, supportive environment within the community for individuals who have experienced substance use issues. LRCC Drop-In Centers allow individuals the opportunity to learn to live in the community and to take control of their lives.

At the LRCC Centers, individuals are able to interact with others who have shared similar experiences, such as their addiction/recovery journey, treatment, recovery housing, therapies, etc. Understanding of the pain and suffering of Substance Use Disorder problems are shared. A powerful support system is built that helps individuals through painful times. One of the main reasons individuals come to a LRCC Drop-In Center is this support. Individuals find that discouragement, fear, rage, pain, and anxiety are all natural human emotions. They realize that their hopes, dreams, fears and pain are no different than those of others. This realization helps individuals feel less alone or afraid.

Stigma Reduction Education

Deeply entrenched social stigma have kept recovery voices silent and faces hidden for decades. The vacuum created by this silence has been filled by sensational mass media depictions of addiction that continue to perpetuate a lurid public fascination with the dysfunctional side of what is a preventable and treatable health condition. Just like women with breast cancer, or people with HIV/AIDS, a grass roots social justice movement is emerging. Courageous addiction recovery advocates have come out of the shadows and are organizing to end discrimination and move toward recovery-based solutions. The moving story of The Anonymous People is told through the faces and voices of the citizens, leaders, volunteers, corporate executives, and public figures who are laying it all on the line to save the lives of others just like them. This passionate new public recovery movement is fueling a changing conversation that aims to transform public opinion, and finally shift problematic policy toward lasting solutions.
